U.S. Mid-Century Strategy

Posted by OnLocation on Feb 16, 2017 4:21:30 PM

We at OnLocation are excited to see – once again - our work featured as an integral part of the recently published study United States Mid-Century Strategy for Deep Decarbonization published by the Obama Administration.

In this report the Administration outlines a set of possible pathways to achieve the United States commitment to the Paris Agreement of economy-wide net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions of 80 percent or more below 2005 levels by 2050.  TCover from mid_century_strategy_report-cropped.jpghe Administration’s strategy is supported by comprehensive analysis and modeling by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

DOE’s analysis involved the use of two integrated economy-wide energy models, the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS) and the Global Change Assessment Model (GCAM), to explore the potential impact of various greenhouse gas reduction strategies on the energy system.  We at OnLocation, with our more than 100 collective years of modeling experience, provided the NEMS modeling support for the DOE scenario analysis.

OnLocation's experts incorporated DOE program assumptions into NEMS and created two alternative technology scenarios to demonstrate how the United States can use a combination of technological progress and policy intervention to meet the growing demands on its energy system while achieving a low-emissions pathway and maintaining a thriving economy.

We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this DOE policy analysis and showcase our expertise with complex integrated energy-economic modeling systems such as NEMS.
